This breadth sheds light not only on the role of national governments but also the role of multilateral institutions like the European Union, and the whole range of migrants: legal, illegal, students, tourists, and refugees.While the primary focus throughout is on policies, an awareness nonetheless arises through the volume that an intensification of immigration politics can have severe consequences for the social and economic circumstances of national minorities of immigrant origin.
