Description - Alaska Research Natural Area: 1. Mount Prindle (Classic Reprint) by Glenn Patrick Juday

Excerpt from Alaska Research Natural Area: 1. Mount Prindle

Foreword The concept of establishing natural areas for education and scientific research is not new. As early as 1917 in the United States, the Ecological Society of America set up the Committee on the Preservation of Natural Conditions and published its findings in 1926. Other professional societies - Society of American Foresters, the Society of Range Management, and the Soil Conservation Society of America - proposed programs to identify and set aside areas where natural forest, range, and soil conditions could be preserved and studied.
