Description - Angela Bulloch by Christian Rattemeyer

Every three years the City of Wolfsburg awards the "Young City Sees Young Art" art prize. The 2011 award goes to an interesting contemporary artist in Germany, Angela Bulloch (*1966), an installation artist who works in both London and Berlin. Bulloch's works often deal with spatial concepts, systems of rules, or viewer interaction. She became known for her Pixel Boxes, cube-shaped, illuminated boxes that are capable of creating all sixteen million colors of a television screen using just three basic colors.

Drawings make up the core of this publication with texts by Susanne Pfleger, Christian Rattemeyer, Heinz Stahlhut, and a score by Ken Ueno, along with Drawing Machines, a group of works begun in the 1990s, which involve observers in the production process. A new installation constructed especially for the space at Castle Wolfsburg is also featured.
