Description - Beatrice Helg by Robert Wilson

This book is the most important monograph devoted to the Swiss artist-photographer Beatrice Helg. It offers a survey of her work from the past twenty-five years, and is accompanied by a poem dedication by Robert Wilson, critical essays by Serge Linares and Philippe Piguet, and a poem by Sylviane Dupuis. Helg's oeuvre has a singular position within the photographic tradition of "constructed images". Remote from hyperrealist or narrative imagery, her work displays abstract forms and luminous worlds. Drawing on a passion for music and a marked sensitivity to notions of space and time, to architecture, and to the staging of plays and operas, the artist creates monumental spaces in which sculpture, painting, installation, and light interact. As poetic as they are spiritual, her photographs show strangely beautiful universes of shadow and of light. Her work opens onto an infinity onto a quest for the absolute or a search for inner mystery. Text in English and French. AUTHORS: Robert Wilson is a highly creative and eclectic figure, He is a stage director, choreographer, set designer, playwright, sculptor, and video artist - in short, one of the foremost personalities in international experimental theatre, opera, and the arts in general. In 1970, he created Deafman Glance, which made him famous all over the world. He followed this up with an opera, Einstein on the Beach, with music by Philip Glass, which turned the conventional perception of opera on its head. His innovative productions, which involve a wholly original use of lighting, are performed in all the leading theatres and opera houses in the world. Philippe Piguet is an art historian and critic, as well as an independent exhibition organiser. He has been in charge of devising the programme for Chapelle-espace d'art contemporain de Thonon-les-Bains since 2008; he is also Commissaire Général de Normandie Impressionniste for 2020. Philippe Piguet has been a regular contributor to the magazine Art Absolument since 2002, as well as writing for Artpress. Serge Linares is professor of Twentieth-century French Literature at the University of Versailles-Saint Quentin and researcher at Centre d'Histoire Culturelle des Societes Contemporaines. He is the author of books on Cocteau, the artist writers, and the relationship between writing and the visual arts (sculpture and painting). His latest works are: Picasso et les écrivains and Poesie en partage, on Pierre Reverdy and André du Bouchet. Sylviane Dupuis is a Swiss dramatist, essayist, and critic.
