Description - Champion Trees in the British Isles by Great Britain: Forestry Commission

The gales of October 1987 made this third volume an unfortunate necessity. A disproportionate number of champions of rare species, particularly broadleaves, were in the Kent and Sussex gardens which suffered the worst storm losses. Therefore this volume contains many updated figures. Species have been included down to a considerable degree of rarity. The opportunity has been taken to give more precedence to diameters at the standard 1.5m, as well as to include a number of species and cultivars for the first time.
