Description - Delivering Justice by Jim Haskins
The life of black civil rights activist W. W. Law is imaginatively depicted in this strikingly illustrated biography. As a young boy growing up poor in segregated Savannah, Georgia, Westley Wallace Law was encouraged by his grandmother to grow up and 'be somebody'. Determined to make a difference in his community, W. W. helped blacks register to vote, joined the NAACP and trained protestors in the use of non-violent civil disobedience, and in 1961, led the great Savannah Boycott. During that famous protest, blacks refused to shop in downtown Savannah. When officials finally agreed to declare all citizens equal, regardless of skin colour, Savannah became the first city in the South to end racial discrimination. As a lifelong carrier for the United Postal Service, W. W. Law fostered communication between blacks and whites. He delivered much more than the mail to all citizens of the city he loved.
