Description - The Doings of Hamish and Dougal by Barry Cryer

Hamish and Dougal, two elderly Scotsmen played by Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden, have for many years been a popular feature of the hit BBC Radio 4 comedy show I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue and since 2004 have had their own BBC Radio 4 series.

In 2002, between 24th December and 27th December, daily episodes of a sitcom You'll Have Had Your Tea were broadcast on BBC Radio 4. They were an immediate success with the Radio 4 and ISIHAC audience. The main differences are the presence of a script, written by Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden, and of two other actors, Alison Steadman (who plays Mrs Naughtie, the housekeeper) and Jeremy Hardy (who plays the local laird).Despite the risque nature of a lot of the jokes, it is a very gentle comedy, with the usual joyous disregard for storylines. The third series began in August 2006, with a special half-hour episode on Burns Night 2007. More episodes are planned for Autumn 2007 and throughout 2008.This book will be based on the scripts - around 30 by the time of publication - and will be a wonderful compendium of the doings of Hamish and Dougal, the Laird and Mrs Naughtie. (A favourite episode is 'The Fitness Club' where the Laird challenges Dougal to a MacAthlon, an endurance test that involves swimming Loch Crankie, cycling to the bottom of Ben Kingsley, then running the length of Glen Close.) Illustrations will be by Graeme.
