The main purpose of this survey is to monitor smoking, drinking and drug use amongst secondary school children aged between 11 and 15 years old, based on data obtained from over 10,000 pupils in 331 schools throughout England during the autumn term of 2003. It includes findings organised under the headings of: prevalence of taking drugs; awareness and knowledge of drugs; drug availability; reasons for taking or refusing drugs; attitudes towards drug taking; smoking; drinking; relationships between use of cigarettes, alcohol, cannabis, volatile substances and Class A drugs; factors including ethnic background, receipt of free school meals, truanting and exclusion from school; and school policies.
