Papers first presented at an international conference held in Cambridge in 1987 have been rewritten and updated in the light of recent research, and are supplemented by a series of studies to give a detailed account of current work covering evidence from Europe, Asia and Africa. Together, the two volumes aim to provide a synthesis of recent research into modern human origins.
