Among the many milions of soldiers who made up that toll, was a number of Red Army general officers. Many of them perished on the battlefield or in prison camps at the hands of their German tormentors. Others fell victim to Stalinist oppression. Aleksander Maslov memorializes these victims using formerly secret Soviet archival materials and interviews with families of the victims.
