Femicide is the lethal killing ofwomen and girls because of their gender. Until now, femicide has been includedin the category 'homicide', but many women are murdered because they are women.

In an attempt to combat thephenomenon, the COST (Cooperation on Science and Technology) attached to theEuropean Union funded a four-year project on "Femicide across Europe." Thisbook brings together the findings of this project in which 80 representativesfrom 30 countries in Europe joined together to combat femicide and chart thesignificant progress which has been made.
