In March 1969, Ronnie and Reggie Kray were sentenced to 30 years for the gangland killings of George Cornell and Jack `the Hat’ McVitie.

At the time of writing, several Kray-related books hover around the top 10. The Krays have always been guaranteed True Crime sellers but, thanks to the publicity surrounding Tom Hardy’s gangland double-biopic Legend, the notorious crime lords have never been more in the public eye.

Lenny Hamilton was a jewel thief who consorted with the Kray twins, and had a deep insight into their underworld. In an interview he recalled the following hair-raising episode: `I’ll never forget when Ronnie Kray burned me with pokers. I used to have black, curly hair then. He burnt me hair off. He held a poker across my eyes and said “Now I’m going to burn your fucking eyes out”’.
