Rest can be elusive. Sleepless nights plague us; a true day off from our jobs slips through our fingers as one more deadline needs to be met or another crisis erupts. Our lives move at a pace today that leaves us feeling behind the moment we wake and exhausted each night when we retire; but, God commands us to rest anyway. His requirement is not given as one more duty to perform, but an invitation to live differently than the hurried masses. The beauty and significance of His intended rest is much richer than a day off each week. Rest of heart, body, and community becomes available to us as we resolve to fulfill His command.
