Description - The Governance of Large Technical Systems by Olivier Coutard
Large technical systems (LTS) such as transportation, telecommunications, energy supply and urban utility networks present particular problems of governence for firms, industries and nation-states. Their complexity calls for constant innovation in firm management and industrial organization, while their key role in modern economics and their frequent monopolistics nature necessitate close public surveillance. This work examines the governence of LTS at firm, industry and state levels and the interactions between the systems and society. In particular, international contributors explore the implications of major technological, economic and social changes during the last twenty years for traditional forms of LTS governence.
Their research is centred around the following themes: * traditional forms of governance * new regulatory challenges * the governability of complex technologies * conceptual issues related to the governance of inter-organizational networks The Governance of Large Technical Systems combines international case studies with conceptual research, offering a wide range discussion of governance issues for the large technical systems so essential to industrialised and industrialising countries.
