Description - grit salute by Keri Glastonbury

"Keri Glastonbury's grit salute carries us along on a circumambient mash-up full of verve, interest and laconic one-liners. From Clovelly to Rome to Harajuku to Shimla, it's a fun ride, bristling with songs and signposts, intent on 'minor insurgency'. Glastonbury is a generous guide, crafting 'a movement vocabulary' that is both resilient and attuned to loss, butch and tender: 'There's so much more to nostalgia / than this lampoon'. "

- Kate Lilley

Excerpt from the book
At Least She's Protecting My (Something):
Or you'd be all over me right?
Not so, but so prickly cheeked gorgeous.
I never thought of myself as a Queensland-
type person (despite the blonde hair) or a poetry-
type person (sorry, the designer is still rendering the font).
I mean what was on offer - historical re-enactment?
Are there school uniforms for giants?
Helvetica saves the forests. Isn't that taking it a bit far?
Though it's just now (pause) I realise that I have to protect myself
from my sudden over-investments
& who knows what I'm capable of saying with poetic restraint.
I stencil the boundary
with fresh tenderness
(& scrunch up form)

hygienic italy:
pigeons and satellite dishes occupy the event horizon
cross vast condominium rooftops
perhaps fluttering anti-angels leave the basilica
for the smashed terracotta hill of testaccio
or form emergent, from the grunge and gravitas
but are they, even ala
laurie anderson, luce iragary, jorie graham
your ideal intermediatries?
we turn instead to something botanical
that too implies caring and superiority
or a more gentle regard
just as rosemary toothpaste
differentiates me from the other's
smug alterities (eg: poems)
at a point where art & money cleave together
or apart, a plaque on the wall tries to unite
in new ideas and faith in talent
a situated intelligence
which leaves you to gesticulate on the streets
the mastery of repeating language acquisition
something else you always yawned at, until now
a sonorous cipher, you wish - along with a fiat cinque cento

for hooting around
