Description - The Last Kappa of Old Japan by Sunny Seki
Kappas are mythological creatures that have been a part of Japanese folklore for centuries. These creatures are believed to be messengers of the god of water; they often do mysterious things and like to eat cucumbers. Legends of kappas exist all over Japan. This illustrated children's book tells the exciting story of a Japanese boy, Norihei, who lived on a farm in the countryside of Japan some time ago. One day Norihei discovers a sick young kappa, Q-chan, and saves his life. The two become fast friends and often play together, and Q-chan introduces Norihei to the secret wonders of the water world. As a kappa, it's Q-chan's job to keep the water clean. Then Q-chan has to leave and the two do not meet again for a very long time. Many years later, Q-chan is able to return Norihei's favor and the the two revive their boyhood friendship.
