The story is about a miniature horse named Lightning who loves playing with and helping children smile. One day, Lightning comes across something that he has never seen before - a muddy puddle. Within the muddy puddle, Lightning sees an image that frightens him so much that he feels scared and no longer wants to come out of his barn to play with the children at the ranch. Lightning must learn how to face his fear if he is ever going to get back to the things that he loves doing. With a little help from his friend Buddy, Lightning is able to overcome his fear. The adventure helps Lightning to understand why some children who come to the ranch do not feel like smiling. In addition, Lightning also learned that it can take time to get over things that scare us. After Lightning's experience with the muddy puddle he is determined to work hard at helping children feel happy and safe.
