Description - Luke Paul and the Mosque by Finlay A. J. MacDonald

Luke Paul makes a second appearance, this time as a minister engaged in interfaith issues. Finlay Macdonald draws on the wealth of his own experience to make this useful, practical book a must read for anyone with an interest in Christianity and Islam. "I warmly welcome this book as a helpful contribution to interfaith relations in Scotland." -- Bailie Fariha Thomas, Glasgow City Council. "Through this story of the Rev Luke Paul, the issues involved in opening up inter-religious dialogue and learning about inter-cultural sensitivity are thoughtfully and carefully explored. It should inspire and encourage those who might be hesitant to follow his example." -- Very Rev Dr Sheilagh Kesting, Ecumenical Officer, Church of Scotland. "This is a very timely venture twelve years after 9/11 building, as it does very effectively, on encounter and experience as well as history and theology. It opens up different, and in some cases quite difficult, areas for constructive reflection and consideration, doing so in a tentative and exploratory way, and making good use of analogy so that double standards are well avoided."
-- Professor Hugh Goddard, Director, Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World, University of Edinburgh "An imaginative and enjoyable approach to inter faith relations. It is informative and reflective. Rooted as it is in real life experiences it gently leads the reader to consider contemporary issues in a way which is open, challenging and loving without being confrontational. Although the central character is a fictional minister of the Kirk, the issues raised are ones facing all the Christian Churches and indeed all faiths. This book will be a valuable resource for Churches and other groups interested in interfaith relations, an enjoyable read and as such a contribution to harmony and understanding in our multifaith society. " -- Sr Isabel Smyth, Chair, Interfaith Scotland. Finlay A. J. Macdonald is a retired Church of Scotland minister. After parish appointments in Clackmannanshire and Glasgow he served as Principal Clerk of the General Assembly from 1996-2010. He was Moderator of the General Assembly of 2002 and a founder member of the Religious Leaders' Meeting post 9/11.
In 2008 he co-led an interfaith pilgrimage to Israel and Palestine. He also served for a period as a member and as Vice-Convener of the Scottish Interfaith Council. Since 2001 he has been a Chaplain to the Queen in Scotland.
