He has written for a number of national media publications including The Sunday Times, Financial Times, The Observer and Vogue. He won the Somerset Maugham Award for his best-selling title Running for the Hills in 2007, and won the Dolman Best Travel Book Award for A Single Swallow in 2010. His first children's book, Aubrey and the Terrible Yoot, which tackles the issue of depression, was awarded the Branford Boase Award in 2016.
