His father, Mariano, navigated the family safely through the neighborhood battlefield. After the war, Mariano enrolled his children in the best schools. Following high school, Eduardo spent eight years as a member of the De La Salle Brothers, but he resigned from the order before pronouncing perpetual vows. He began a career in marketing, advertising, real estate and the stock market, married at 27, and had two children before immigrating to Australia.
