Description - Raymond Pettibon by Thomas Miessang

This book contains texts by Thomas Miesgang, Gerald Matt, Edward Dimendberg, and Hans Rudolf Reust. The graphic artist Raymond Pettibon (born in 1957 in Tucson, Arizona) was originally influenced by the comic style of Milton Caniff and John Kirby, and first became well-known outside of the art scene for creating flyers, concert posters, and album covers for the independent record label SST, owned by his brother Greg Ginn. But he soon distanced himself from the Californian hardcore punk scene and developed his Tragedie humaine, which chipped away at America's understanding of itself and deconstructed popular myths in a disturbing connection of image and text. This catalogue, published to accompany the exhibition at Kunsthalle Wien October 2006-February 2007, includes an interview with the artist by Gerald Matt and Thomas Miesgang.
