Without valorising Illich, this study analyses the messianic principle inherent in discursive exclusion, and contributes toward a collective reconsideration of Illich's message within the educational community. "Silencing Ivan Illich" aims to add a valuable dimension to the pedagogical and philosophical debate over the direction of education and to provide educators with means to constructively rethink Ivan Illich's provocative question.
