Nicholas Saunders investigates their origins and how they were made, exploring their personal meaning and cultural significance. AUTHOR: Dr. Saunders is a lecturer in the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Bristol, and between 1998-2001 he was British Academy Senior Research Fellow and made a pioneering anthropological study of trench art. He specializes in the study of the archaeology, material culture, and cultural memory of Twentieth –Century conflict, focusing on the WWI.
