On account of the diverse forms of the grains, these tubes are not uniform throughout their length, but consist of a series of triangular cavities connected at their smaller ends. Owing to the variation of the diameters of the grains, these cavities are not uniform in size, but are smal ler or larger as the grains increase or diminish in size.
