Western Australia was established as a colony for free settlers on 2 May 1829. At the end of 1830 a Legislative Council comprising the governor and four officials was authorised. It did not however sit until 7 February 1932. The membership was expanded by four in 1867. All were non-elected which caused considerable disquiet among the population.
